Dear Mom,
I had such a great day on our field trip to the local farm. I got to see a huge windmill, it was awesome. We all took a lunch break and got to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Wish you could have come too. Maybe we could go back sometime as a family!
Love You,
Jimmy

STUDIO REFLECTION:
I really enjoyed our first studio (Mary Cassatt). I chose to use a photo of my sorority sisters and I on Preference Day of Formal Recruitment 2013. I used the quote, " A sister is someone who knows everything about you and loves you anyways." I love this quote and feel like it was very fitting with the relationships theme. This was my favorite studio we created this unit.
Our second studio ( Rene Magritte), was my least favorite of the studios we created this unit. Although I thought the activity was fun, I did not like that I was unable to pick the clippings to put on my postcard front. When we first began the studio, I had a particular vision in mind for what I was going to put on my postcard. After I received my postcards back with their clippings, I was almost upset because it was not at all what I had envisioned originally (no offense to my classmates). As Pink (2005) states, “design in its simplest form is the activity of creating solutions” (p. 75). I need to learn how to let go because part of art is letting yourself go.
Our third and final studio (Do Ho Suh) was a fun studio. I remember making popup cards in elementary school and always loved them. There was no rhyme or reason to my house, this most certainly does not look like my family's house. I just enjoyed created a unique piece with no particular idea in mind and just let the creative juices flow. I could really see how this particular studio fits into the theme of relationships. I think this wold be a fun activity to do in my future classroom.
Relationships are a huge theme in both young and old. To be able to connect and empathize with others is an important skill everyone should have. Pink(2005) states, "Empathy is the ability to imagine yourself in someone else's position and to intuit what that person is feeling."(p,159). The overall theme of relationships is so prevalent in our world and I could see the connection to this theme in all of the studios.
